Your Input Needed for Your Deacons!

Friday, July 25th, 2014

Leadership is needed in our church and we welcome your input. We are, as you know, in a place where our leadership positions for Moderator, Vice-Moderator, Deacons, Various Ministry Groups, and other positions will be considered for the 2015 time frame and beyond. The current Deacons have requested your input on who might be most suitable for helping the church in this area.

In the early church, deacons understood their role as servants. They were leaders not based on position but by function as they carried out their service by “being allowed” to serve! (This term “allowed” is also referenced in Acts 5:41 where “Suffering” is described.) The Scriptures only use the translated term “deacon” a couple of times but we can see in I Tim.3:8-13 a fairly good description of what we should expect in the personal life of a deacon.

Deacons were to be “like Christ.” Mark 10:45 says that Christ came to serve and give his life for others. The deacon’s role can be no different. Humility in service is his goal and not position or power. Jesus could have modeled either of these goals of “power or position” at any point of His life but he did not. In following the model that Jesus did present, the deacon, in the early church, did a very “practical ministry.”

Please prayerfully consider the church’s urgent need for spiritual leadership and assistance as you consider quietly speaking with either our current deacons or pastoral staff regarding individuals that you believe could serve the Father in this role at VCBC. Indeed, leave your heart open to service in this way as well!

Current Deacons can also be considered for “continuing service” so we welcome your thoughts on that as well. A term of service for the deacon is 5 years. Presently serving are: Philip Mah, Henry Cheung, Betty Yuen, and Alfred Lu. Our need is for a number of about 8-10 in total for 2015 onwards.

Leadership Needed, How About You?

Message by Rev. Don Gardner, English Lead Pastor

Pastor Don asks us to share with one another if we are a half full glass person or a half empty glass person. Whether we’re negative or we’re positive tells us a lot about our personality and sometimes how we view life.
